Slow?

Monday, July 28th, 2008 | News

It feels slow around here. Does it feel slow to you? It’s just that with a couple of beginners programs and not a lot of Learning Resource or Editorials going up, it may seem like I’m not doing much around here. Au contraire!

Most of what’s going on is behind the scenes. After a significant dry spell I’ve written a new program that I’m so excited about. It’s going to be going up in 3 weeks, August 8th. Actually, i didn’t write the program as much as I converted it from a classic DOS program. If you’ve never heard about the Zen simulation Robot Finds Kitten educate yourself so you can look forward to getting your hands on the code and a working version compiled for your Windows machine on August 8th.

I’ve also added more than a few lines of code to Alleytris that improved game play somewhat because I just can’t stop playing it. However since the changes made what was already pretty functional code look somewhat more confusing I decided not to change the code (or the pdf) associated with that program, but the executable for alleytris now contains a number of excellent enhancements. Should make it more enjoyable. If you haven’t already go download and play.

The site now has a social networks plug-in, so if you are a member of StumbleUpon, del.icio.us, facebook, Digg, Slashdot, or any number of other sites like that you can now clue all your online friends at once into the coolness that is Cymon’s Games with a push of a button. I think it only works with specific posts and not the whole site, so if you can think of specific pages that should get a push on these sites make a comment below.

Speaking of comments, I haven’t seen a lot of chatter on the site, nor have I received much e-mail, but the stats for July have blown away June, so there’s a lot of folks visiting the site. Don’t know what happened on the 15th, but the site got a spike of viewers. So if you’re new to Cymon’s Games, welcome, enjoy looking around, feel free to post a comment or two and rate the programs you try, and if you have any suggestions for me to making the site better, e-mail me.

One last thing. I’m planning on starting something like a pledge drive, kind of like those annoying Public Television things. I need to get some new programs for Cymon’s Games and I can’t do it all myself. I’d like to push for you to try your hand at writing a program. More will be coming on that soon, but feel free to start now.
