Cymon’s Games 2.0

Friday, August 22nd, 2008 | News

If you actually visit the site and don’t just RSS the content, you may have noticed things have changed. I call it Cymon’s Games 2.0. Along with a shiney new theme that I spent the better part of a week working on and more than one late night, there is a brand new focus. I finished the theme last night at 2am, but the new focus isn’t ready.

What is this new focus I speak of? Well, it’s actually not that hard to figure out. There are finally enough programs on the site that I can do what I’ve always wanted to do. It’s time to make a book. More on that later.

I’m both pleased and disappointed with the new layout. Pleased because I believe it’s a definite improvement over it’s predecessor, but disappointed because there were things I wanted to implement that are unfortunately just beyond me at this time. It takes alot of time and effort to get something like this going and by the end I think I was just burnt out.

Even tho this site doesn’t focus on flash I wanted to link to this: Learn to code flash games for $0. If flash games could conceivably be typed-in I’d totally make flash games a part of the future of the site.

Also, the one thing the site doesn’t have is a cool favicon. There’s still a week before a new favicon will be decided.

I just wanted to state for the record that I miss the days before CSS sheets. Navigating someone else’s CSS sheet to figure out what layer of indirection is causing images to jump out of inline text is about like trying to decode a voodoo incantation.

I also want to state the writing a wordpress plugin is not easy, is somewhat unclearly documented, and can waste an entire late evening before coming to those conclusions and just “doing it the hard way.”

It was a long road. Tonight I’m going to play some video games, focus on some content, get this thing finished and then I’m going to get back into the pattern of queuing up a month worth of updates so I may have time to do some programming in the future.
