About Joe

Cymon’s Games is hosted by Retro Remakes.

Cymon’s Games website is managed and founded by Joseph Larson.

Joe LarsonJoseph Larson is currently a resident of Lehi, Utah in the USA. His wife is Ariell and together they have 3 children.

Joe became interested in programming at a young age. Inspired and tutored by his father on a Commodore Pet computer and later the Commodore 64. On the C64 he wrote many programs in BASIC. Later he took every class available, learning BASIC on an Apple IIe, Pascal first on the Apple IIe and then in the newly installed IBM PC lab, then later on to C. The time he wasn’t spending on the computers he was reading 101 BASIC games by David H. Ahl in the school library.

He continued his education in programming into college, and dreamed about programming video games for a living and later teaching. In 1996 Joe took the opportunity to serve a mission for his church and spent 2 years in Singapore. When he returned two years of absence from the computer redirected his desires and he returned to college to finish his degree before embarking on a new first career before becoming a teacher. After several failed attempts at deciding what that first career should be he finally gave up and made teaching his first career, and returned to college. During this time he met and married his wife and began his family.

Joe never gave up on programming and while he attended college he began writing C/C++ conversions of the old BASIC programs he read in high school. Once Joe finished a bachelors degree in math he began teaching 7th graders. When that didn’t last 2 years he took a job in the IT field doing QA testing for Imagine Learning.

Joe posted his programs on a message board for retro remakes and was offered web space for them. He accepted and Cymon’s Games was finally a reality. Now he seeks to share his love of programming the way it was shared with him, updated for this day and age.
